Canada's jobs comeback? Too good to be true

From: news.yahoo.com

OTTAWA (Reuters) - Canada created a stunning 140,000 jobs in just two months this year, the most in 30 years and a source of pride for a government bragging that the economy has got its moxie back. But scratch the surface of the official data, and stir in a few secondary figures, and the picture looks far less upbeat. Canada is definitely creating jobs, but the figures are volatile at the best of times. There's also been an increase in involuntary part-time work, a decline in employment quality and a fall in real wages. ... Read more »

LONDON/FRANKFURT (Reuters) - They were dismissed as prophets of doom. Now, as the euro struggles to survive, long-standing critics of Europe's single currency are more like prophets in their own time. But when they say ‘I told you so', many do so with a regretful shake of the head, knowing the chaos and contagion that could ensue if austerity-weary Greece, at the epicentre of the crisis, quits the euro after a new election next month. ... The soaring Hispanic population in Texas may not help Hispanic congressional hopefuls, like former state lawmaker Romo, in the state's primary elections Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Two of the new districts are predominately Hispanic. But the front-runner in one is a nine-term representative, who is white, while Hispanic candidates in the other, face a strong opponent in another state lawmaker, who is black. (AP Photo/Eric Gay)One is a black real estate agent and the other a white millionaire. For two new districts created to reflect Texas' soaring Hispanic population, they might be the representatives elected to Congress.
