"The violence took place about 5 p.m. at a series of interconnected mobile homes, down a dirt road and several miles northwest of the town of Louisa... Escalating a long-standing family quarrel, Sponaugle shot dead his son and nephew. Also injured were his sister and brother-in-law, and his other two nephews. Sponaugle shot at officers, and unleashed his pit bull at a deputy who had brought a police dog. Deputies returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect."
