Norway is currently in the grip of a crippling butter shortage. Bad weather led to poor grass production, which led to less milk production from cows. Coupled with the nation's obsession with a high fat, low carb diet has led to the shortages. The Wall Street Journalreports that many people are buying cream and churning their own butter. Smugglers have been caught bringing butter over the border. The lack of butter means two traditional types of cookies are not being baked. Apparently the import tax on other countries' butter is incredibly high in Norway.
