BI-LO and Winn-Dixie Stores have announced plans to merger. The combined organization will include 690 grocery stores and 63,000 employees. The company will have stores in eight states in the southeastern United States.

The transaction is currently expected to close in the next 60 to 120 days, subject to the approval of Winn-Dixie shareholders and other customary closing conditions. Both BI-LO and Winn-Dixie will continue to operate as separate companies until the merger is complete.
